eVET Pathways at St Mary & St Mina’s Coptic Orthodox College

Expanding Opportunities Beyond the Traditional Classroom

At St Mary & St Mina’s Coptic Orthodox College, we are committed to helping every student pursue a pathway that aligns with their strengths, interests, and future aspirations. While traditional academic pathways remain an important part of senior schooling, we also recognise that many students thrive through practical, industry-based learning experiences.

As part of our commitment to personalised pathway planning, eligible students are encouraged to consider External Vocational Education and Training (eVET) courses as part of their Stage 6 studies.

eVET courses provide students with the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications, practical workplace skills, and valuable industry experience while completing their Higher School Certificate (HSC).

What is eVET?

External Vocational Education and Training (eVET) allows students to study a vocational course through an approved external training provider while remaining enrolled at school.

These courses combine practical training with theoretical learning and are designed to prepare students for employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, or further tertiary study.

Depending on the course selected, students may:

  • contribute units toward their HSC
  • gain a nationally recognised qualification
  • develop practical, job-ready skills
  • access structured workplace learning opportunities
  • strengthen pathways into apprenticeships, traineeships, TAFE, or university

Why We Promote eVET Pathways

At SMSM, we actively promote eVET opportunities because they allow students to explore future careers while still at school.

eVET can be particularly valuable for students interested in practical industries or career-focused pathways, including:

  • Construction
  • Business Services
  • Information Technology
  • Hospitality
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Community Services
  • Health Services
  • Automotive
  • Beauty
  • Electrotechnology
  • Animal Studies
  • Fitness and Sport industries

These courses help students make informed decisions about their future while building confidence, independence, and employability skills.

Supporting Individual Student Pathways

Our college works closely with students and families to identify the most appropriate pathway based on each student’s goals, learning profile, and post-school aspirations.

eVET may be a strong option for students who:

  • are considering an apprenticeship or traineeship
  • prefer practical, hands-on learning environments
  • wish to gain early industry exposure
  • want to combine academic study with vocational qualifications
  • are exploring alternative pathways into further education or employment

Our Careers team guides students through the course selection process to ensure decisions align with HSC requirements and long-term pathway planning.

For more information about eVET opportunities, students and families are encouraged to contact Mr. Messiha (j.messiha@stmary.nsw.edu.au).
