Primary School

Primary School at St Mary and St Mina’s Coptic Orthodox College
At St Mary and St Mina’s Coptic Orthodox College, our Primary School is a joyful and nurturing beginning to each child’s learning journey. It is a place where young hearts and minds are formed in faith, curiosity and character. Grounded in the teachings and traditions of our Coptic Orthodox Church, we believe every child is created in the image and likeness of God, blessed with unique gifts that are to be discovered, encouraged and celebrated.
Our Primary School provides a rich, holistic and developmentally appropriate education, inviting students to explore new ideas, build foundational skills and grow in confidence as learners. Whether their interests emerge in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, problem‑solving, technology, sport or imaginative play, every child is supported to flourish and experience success.
We are deeply committed to creating an environment where children are known, valued and cared for within a loving Christian framework. Our pastoral care structures, wellbeing programs and daily classroom practices are shaped by gentleness, respect and compassion - reflecting Christ’s call to love one another and to build a community where every child feels safe and supported.
Students in the Primary School are encouraged to develop strong relationships with their teachers and peers, fostering a sense of belonging and connection to the wider College community. Through intentional wellbeing initiatives, age‑appropriate routines and positive behaviour expectations, children grow in resilience, responsibility and a healthy sense of self.
As members of a faith-filled community, our youngest learners are guided to treat others with kindness, participate enthusiastically in their learning and engage in the spiritual, academic, and cocurricular life of the College. In doing so, they grow not only in knowledge but in virtue - becoming children who shine with humility, gratitude and a desire to follow Christ.
The Primary School at St Mary and St Mina’s is more than the first stage of schooling. It is a foundation of faith, learning, and community. It is a place where children begin their journey of formation, supported by love, strengthened by belonging and inspired by the hope we have in Christ.

Primary School Curriculum
In the Primary School at St Mary and St Mina’s Coptic Orthodox College, each classroom is a dynamic, joyful and faith‑filled learning environment. We are an explicit instruction school, with teachers delivering high quality content through rigorous pedagogy and consistent application of best practice in the classroom. Children are encouraged to inquire, wonder, explore and continually build their understanding of God’s world. From their earliest years, students learn to take responsibility for their learning, developing confidence, curiosity and a love of discovery.
Learning is deeply collaborative. Students work closely with their teachers and peers to plan, present and reflect on their learning. Our teachers guide this process by posing meaningful, challenging and engaging questions that connect learning across multiple curriculum areas. This approach nurtures critical and creative thinking, encourages hands‑on exploration and promotes active involvement in every learning experience.
All mandatory outcomes set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) are taught explicitly and thoughtfully woven into our broader learning framework, supporting a holistic approach that values conceptual understanding, global awareness and student agency. Our wellbeing initiatives further strengthen the learning environment, ensuring that each child grows academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Classes are intentionally structured to ensure students learn alongside peers with a range of abilities and interests, enabling rich collaboration and shared growth. Small class sizes allow teachers to understand each child deeply - their learning style, strengths, challenges and potential.
