Biography

Dena Mikhail is an experienced and dedicated educator with 17 years of teaching expertise in Grades 7–12 English across independent, Catholic, and public school settings. She has spent six years as Head of the English Faculty at St. Mary’s and St. Mina's College, where she led the faculty with distinction, overseeing curriculum development, enhancing teaching practices, and fostering a culture of academic excellence.

As a committed professional, Mrs Mikhail is an ongoing member of the ISNSW English Professional Learning Advisory Committee, she plays a pivotal role in shaping and advising on professional learning opportunities for English educators across New South Wales. Additionally, she is an active member of the English Teachers' Association and stays at the forefront of assessment standards and practices. She is deeply involved in the professional development of teachers, regularly sharing her knowledge and expertise to enhance teaching quality across the sector. She has presented at educational conferences and published articles in the ETA journal, further demonstrating her dedication to advancing the discipline.

Mrs Mikhail is passionate about the integration of agentive and generative artificial intelligence in education. She is curious about its potential to enhance learning and teaching across all faculties and currently leads the college’s staff in exploring and implementing innovative AI-driven strategies.

Her educational philosophy centers on inspiring students to embrace learning as a lifelong journey, fostering curiosity, resilience, and the development of a growth mindset that extends beyond academic achievement. As Head of Teaching and Learning, she is committed to fostering a dynamic and enriching educational environment for both staff and students, employing leading practices that prize education as a fundamental pillar of individual and community success.
