| National Young Leaders Conference |
2009-02-23 |
On the 23rd of February, the Primary Captains
attended the National Young Leaders Conference at
the Sydney Entertainment Centre. The day was a
very valuable one for our young leaders and
provided many opportunities for them to listen to
speeches from people who have influenced their
community and to mingle with other young leaders
of the future.
They learnt that leadership does not always equal position, but does equal influence
and responsibility. Great leadership involves individuals who can look inwardly at
themselves and see what they can change in order to produce better outcomes and
results. Anyone can be a leader! Words and speeches can be great to motivate
people and get them thinking, but actions result in change. As Martin Luther King
once said long ago – “I live for the day where people will not be judged by the colour of
their skin, but by the content of their character” We share his dream to live and work
together as brothers.
Leaders also need to help people treat each other with respect, courtesy and
consideration. We need to learn to live in a world with an open heart and believe in
ourselves. Develop other interests, such as music and art. Experiencing these things
help us to develop life skills to become a better person.
By being the chosen role models for our student
body, our young captains have demonstrated great
character and sense of responsibility. It is wonderful
to see them grow and develop their place in the
College. We hope you enjoy reading their
contribution to this month’s Insight!
The Swimming Scheme will begin on March 16th for students in Years 1 -6 and run
for nine days. This is an important program for our students and it is wonderful to
see the number of students who will be attending. The program will culminate in the
Primary Swimming Carnival on Friday March 27th for students in years 2 - 6. All
parents and friends are most welcome to attend to cheer on their favourite
competitors!
Notes and all monies must be returned by 23rd March in order for your child to
participate in the Flexikids program in Term 3. This program is in addition to the
College’s current sporting programs and not compulsory. Therefore, students will
only be able to participate if they have paid the full $42.00.
The Flexikids Gymnastics Program will begin in week 2 next term and continue
throughout the term for 9 weeks. It is an excellent opportunity for our students to
work with fully trained instructors. They also provide all equipment needed to help
our children develop their gross motor skills.
Thank you to parents of Year 3 and 4 students who have either paid for the cost of a
recorder or provided their child with an instrument ready to begin recorder lessons.
We all look forward to hearing some fine music in the near future!
